Ned Lamont is hardly a radical. He'll leave extremism to the Bush Administration.

He's a descendant of the wealthy Mellon family, a fourth-generation Harvard graduate, and altogether someone who could have been content to pal around with the privileged robber barons at the country club.

But Lamont is different than the Eastern-bred Bush dynasty in several ways. For one, he started a business from scratch and it succeeded.

Moreover, he stepped forward when others wouldn't to fight a battle for national security, honesty, and a rational foreign policy. He took on a third-term incumbent senator in a primary race that no one thought that he could win when he first started out.

Not only did most Democratic poobahs support his Republican-lite opponent, Joe Lieberman, so did the White House.

But Ned Lamont ran a skilled race with aplomb and grace. He stayed on message because he was true to his convictions and principles. That made him a rarity in politics, and he got rewarded with a victory.

It's no surprise that Ned Lamont is the BuzzFlash "Wings of Justice Award" winner this week.

From the region that gave birth to America, Ned Lamont gave us renewed hope that our Constitution and national common sense could be restored.
