Adam Kokesh
Adam Kokesh served with courage as a
Marine in Iraq. In fact, he volunteered for combat in George Bush's
war and survived the intensely bloody street fighting in Fallujah.
Upon his return to the United States, Kokesh was given an honorable
discharge and placed in the Individual Ready Reserve on inactive
status. He finished his undergraduate work and became a member
of the Iraq Veterans Against the War.
Kokesh, now a graduate student at George Washington University,
participated in an Iraq war protest on the 4th anniversary of the
conflict. He was photographed and filmed wearing some of his former
Marine apparel at the time of the demonstration.
As a result, the Marine Corps scheduled a hearing to consider retroactively
changing Kokesh's record to a dishonorable discharge, claiming
he was not permitted to wear any of his uniform at a political
protest.
Faced with opposition to their action from even the conservative
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kokesh was eventually given a "general
discharge."
The Marine Corps treated Kokesh unfairly for expressing his viewpoints,
a freedom he put his life on the line for in Fallujah. That is
what Bush says we are fighting for there, doesn't he?
Adam Kokesh, to us, you served honorably and bravely. You truly
merit this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
